Update!

So it has been a long time since I blogged, so here is an update on the Jones family. It is long!

Shawn:

Shawn in 10 weeks old today! He is getting really big really fast. At his 2 month appointment last week he was 14 lbs 5 oz (95%) and 23 inches (50%). Most people ask if he is 3 or 4 months old, it has started to get to me that people always make a comment on how big he is and look at me like I am lying that is only 10 weeks, but I just try to remember that I know he is healthy and obviously getting enough.
Shawn has started smiling and cooing. He started doing both around 8 weeks. I can not describe the joy I feel when Shawn smiles at me. We have some fun 'conversations' as he is discovering his vocal chords!

On May 23rd Shawn was blessed by his daddy. We did it on this day because I had a lot of family in town due to my sister's high school graduation. It was a little hectic, with the temple dedication, but it was a wonderful day. We had our family and close friends there to witness such a special day. Shawn has 5 living Great Grandparents (all were at the blessing)!
Shawn is sleeping really well, he sleeps 5-9 hours a night. Each night is totally different. Charlie helps me during the night, which is so wonderful because then I feel supported as I feed him in the wee hours of the night.

We have made some trips since Shawn was born. Shawn and I went to Thatcher, Arizona with my family (Charlie had to work) to go through the open house. Charlie and I took Shawn to the Grand Canyon and to Sedona a few weeks ago to meet some of Charlie's friends.

On Memorial Day, we took Shawn swimming for the first time. He absolutely loved it. I think he is going to be a water baby! (I don't have the pictures to post, they are on my mom's camera)

Shawn recently turned 2 months. I can not believe that I gave birth 2 months ago! Here are 1 and 2 month pictures:

At 1 month the doctor suggested that Shawn might be lactose sensitive and that may be why he is so fussy during feedings and spits up so much. She said I should go off of dairy and see how he reacts. I went cold turkey that week and realized how much I couldn't eat. It about killed me because dairy is what I craved (especially milk) when I was pregnant and the cravings didn't go away when Shawn was born. I now eat only a tiny bit and he seems to be doing better. At his 2 month appointmet we told the doctor that the spit up is a little better but he is still super fussy at feddings. She suggested it maybe heartburn and gave us some Zantac, it seems to be working!

Charlie: Charlie finished his semester at MCC and is very glad to have a break from school until August. He is enjoying church sports. He plays basketball on Wednesdays with guys from the ward and stake softball on Thursday nights. Last Thursday, Shawn and I went to watch him pitch!

Christina: My life mainly revolves around Shawn. I am teaching piano 3 nights a week and am the Beehive advisor in our ward. One of the biggest things in my life right now is nursing. It takes up a lot of my day and has been a very challengind thing for Shawn and I. We are both getting better, but still struggle on most days.

Newborn Photos

When Shawn was 1 1/2 weeks old we got some newborn shots of him and we just got them. He was awake the whole time and did not cooperate very well. Here are the ones that turned out:
This is my favorite one!!!

Too cute!

Shawn is absolutely adorable. We love him so much. Overall he is a really good baby. The last couple of days he has been really fussy because of so much gas. Hopefully it will go away and we can have our happy, calm baby back!

Cousins

Shawn's closest cousin in age is Charlee. They are 22 months apart. Charlee loves Shawn so much, whenever she sees him she lights up and says, "Baby!" She holds out her hands wanting to hold him. She is so cute with him! I hope when they are a little older, they will be the best of friends!

Shawn's Story

Shawn has been here for 10 days already! I can not believe it! I just wanted to share Shawn's story of coming into the world:

On Thursday April 1, I woke up at 4:40 in the morning to go to the bathroom (one of the many trips during the night). I noticed that my garments were wet. I thought maybe I had peed my pants, but soon realized it was not urine. I woke up Charlie and told him I thought my water broke. We decided to wait a little bit to make sure because I didn't want to go to the hospital to just come home. Around 5 o'clock we called Charlie's mom and they thought it was an April Fools joke. We let them know that if it was then we wouldn't have called at 5, that was just mean! We packed our bags and I took a shower and headed to the hospital. Here is how the rest of the day went:

6:45 am - checked into the hospital
8:00 am - admitted into labor and delivery
1:00 pm - I was given Pitocin because I wasn't really having any contractions
4:30 pm - Epidural Time!!!
9:45 pm - time to start pushing
12:00 am - epidural started to wear off so I was given more
1:01 am - Baby Shawn Michael Jones was born!!!

We thought all day that we would have an April Fools baby but it was his joke on us to wait until 1 o'clock in the morning! Pushing for over 3 hours was very exhausting for me but I had wonderful support who got me through it!

Shawn is perfect and we love him so much! He makes the funniest faces which make Charlie and I laugh everyday!

A Scary Night

Last night I fed Shawn and then laid him down and then laid down myself. He started to cry, Charlie picked him up and said he spit up. After turning on the light, we discovered that there was blood in his spit up and little blood clots! We totally freaked out!!! We had no idea what to do so I called my mom. She suggested to call the 24/7 nurse on our insurance card. She really didn’t know anything and said to call our pediatrician. We ended up talking to a triage nurse and she said it was very common for breastfed babies to spit up blood if the mom is very sore and cracked and to made an appointment with the Dr. in the morning. This made us feel better but I don’t know if I will ever get the image of my precious baby with blood tinged spit up all over his P.J.s. Definitely the scariest thing I have ever had to go through.

We met with a lactation consultant this morning to help me heal and to get Shawn to latch correctly. This woman was amazing! She helped me so much! Hopefully the next couple of days will go more smoothly!

Did some one say bath time?

Today was Shawn first sponge bath.  Christina and I gave Shawn his first sponge bath because his cord stump has not fallen off yet.  Once the cord falls off we will be able to give him real baths and not worry about getting water all over the the place.  We took 2 bowls and filled on with warm water and the other with warm soppy water.  we rinsed Shawn off one side at a time and the went back and put the warm soppy water on him and then we rinsed him and dried him off. he did such a good job.  After all was said and done we washed his hair he really liked this he did not fuss, cry or scream.  he took it like a man or baby well after we washed it we combed it and i combed it to look like a Missionary come over.

Shawn also had his first Dr. apt this afternoon at 3:30.  He did a good job.  Christina went to Change Shawn and Shawn some how peed on me but Christina got the bulk of it.  After we got him all change the Dr. come in and she is look at him and he peed all over her as well it was quite the show he putt on, if the Dr. wouldn’t have put her had to block the pee he would have peed right on me it would have been funny i guess.

Shawn we love you, you are so handsome.
